ΑΠΟ ΒΑΘΟΣ ΨΥΧΗΣ…. FROM SOUL’S DEPTH

Διασκευή στο Χορό Ζαλόγγου

Variation on Dance of Zalongou, commemorating the refusal of women of Souli (Epirus) to submit to the occupying forces, instead forming a dance during which they sang the melody “Ehete Yeia Vryssoules,” as one-by-one danced off the cliff’s edge with their infants… (1803)

SANITY OF APOSTASY

Reaching out to cultivate relationships,
in the hope of bearing fruit;
Past and present,
acquaintances, friends, relatives, new faces;

Mixed results,
expectations dampened by reality;
Fair-weather Januses,
relegated to Life’s footnotes

End-result,
crystallization,
friendship embraced by authenticity

Αναζήτηση Ωκυτοκίνης In Search of Oxytocin

Ελπίδες και προορισμούς
θολώνει η σίτα
Μεσ´την μάντρα,
καθημερινότητα

Η Καίτη τραγουδάει
να διώξει τα σύννεφα,
Που νά'ταν εδώ
να διώξει το νέφος

Προϊστάμενοι,
ποιο θεό να διαλέξουν
της παλιάς, ή της καινής;

Το μέλλον,
σε εκκρεμότητα

IN SEARCH OF OXYTOCIN

Hope and destinations,
fogged by the screen
In the pen,
daily routine

Ketty sings,
to disperse the clouds,
Where is she now,
to clear the dark one

First estate,
which god to choose,
from the old, or new?

The future,
pending

Paternal Religion

The foundation is shaky,
exposing the mask,
of the ritual and its shamans

Where substance,
subverted to sickness,
leaves trauma
in the name of profit

Your time was borrowed,
as you basked in the limelight,
yard after yard,
divinity the goal line

You tried to rule the field,
but no more;
Costing your religion and temple,
the price of dishonor and hypocrisy

CHAOS. Rafina, Beauty Amidst Dead-End

Nonexistent sidewalks, leaving pedestrian to imagine width and access, with nowhere else to go but to street.

Passers-by walking, some with smile. Stray dogs and cats (what about the people and culture?)

The neighborhood, beauty from the past, in chaotic present; random expressions of hope, reflected in children and unobstructed view of the blue sea.

Hues of blue,
sea and sky,
I am transfixed

Dusk spreading

at Helios’ departure,
dissipating inertia of soul

Aποχρώσεις μπλε
θαλασσης και ουρανού

Μεταμφιέζομαι

Το σούρουπο απλώνεται
με την αναχώρηση Ηλιου,

διαλύοντας αδράνεια ψυχής

UPROOTED BUT NOT FORGOTTEN – THE ADOPTEES OF GREECE

Click here for podcast “A Way Home for “The Lost Children of Greece” “

Posting the recent interview by Thanos Davelis (The Greek Current) with Mary Cardaras, a Greek-born adoptee, author of “Ripped at the Root” and editor of “Voices of the Lost Children of Greece”, journalist, and founder and director of The Demos Center at The American College of Greece.

The touching history Dr Cardaras narrates is that of children who were taken away from their birth parents in Greece, and given up for adoption to families abroad.. a story of collusion between the Greek state, church, and other corrupt organizations and participants, and the kafkaesque response of the Greek government dealing with unsealing of adoptees’ birth records and (non)granting of citizenship.

The petition “Nostos for Greek Adoptees” asks the Greek state to recognize 4,000 of Greek-born adoptees, and to accept that the post-war Greek state was a party to the uprooted adoptees’ systematic export from Greece, as the children were offered for adoption to new parents and in places unknown.
